Beats, leaves, and gratitude
Lately at our house there are days when the walls fairly vibrate with our family’s spectrum of musical tastes, from Bonnie Raitt to Beethoven. We’ve even found our elderly cat cozying up on the porch firewood box in the warm late afternoon sunshine to a Britney Spears beat.
Wandering outdoors early on a recent morning with frost still coating the grassy path, Maria was astonished by the transformation of rusty maple leaves into a jewel-encrusted carpet, a downy woodpecker’s staccato rhythm reverberating through the black walnut tree, and the absurd delight of an unexpected lilac bloom. This morning, Christopher spotted lingering leaves in the sunrise gold.
We feeI newly grateful to be alive.
Thanksgiving is a welcome reminder to exercise gratitude. Even as we head into another season of darkness, we try to keep our eyes peeled for beauty and joy in unexpected places, to take our time living life, and to “savor every second before the sunrise” (listen on Spotify or YouTube to “Sooner or Later,” from our 2020 album Here Comes the Moon).
We are amazed and humbled by the kindness, generosity, wisdom, and practical grit of family, friends, and listeners that have buoyed and propelled us to this moment, not only since our first Clymer & Kurtz duo concert five Novembers ago, but also throughout our lives.
Thanks for being part of this adventure.
