A recurring question – and an answer

A recurring question – and an answer

We’ve learned to expect this, but still it happens: When heading to a concert after a performance gap of several months, we ask ourselves, “Is it worth the effort? Practicing, driving, loading gear in and out — what is this all for, anyway?”

Then, amazingly, people show up to listen, whole-heartedly. We play and sing, and then they not only buy our hoodies and CDs, but also tell us how particular songs that we’ve written are woven into their lives.

After our Staunton Public Library noontime show earlier this month, we realized that many in the audience had heard us there in prior years, and had come back!

“Your music helps me with my life,” one told us.

Another said, “Sometimes only a song can help you process … Your music is a gift that keeps on giving to our family, and we are so grateful for you.” Another: “I’m still teary … feeling all the feels … so beautiful and brilliant, the way the piano and guitar enter into conversation with each other … transcendent.” And still another: “You’re talented. Are you married?” (Oops, we forgot that people might want to know that yes, we are!)

These meaningful connections with people from all walks of life are the reason we continue honing our craft, and this realization gives us the audacity to keep sending our music out into the world.

We drove back up I-81 contemplating these things and feeling anew in our bones that it was, after all, worth the effort.
